Mount St. Mary’s University Students Enjoy a Safe On-Campus Food Truck

Mount St. Mary’s University is a private, liberal arts Catholic university in Emmitsburg, Md. The University offers more than 70 majors, minors, concentrations, and special programs for traditional undergraduate students and 20 adult undergraduate and graduate level programs.

The Challenge

Mount St. Mary’s University was committed to resuming on-campus instruction and activities safely as the 2020 fall semester began. A team of faculty, administrators, and staff came together to plan a modified environment that prioritized the health and safety of the Mount community. A successful return required that every member of the Mount community work together under the new mandates required due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Solution

The Mount’s marketing and communications team worked with Food Services to brand the truck, create a name and mascot, and design compelling graphics to entice students. Thus, Emmit’s Street Eats was born. Next, the food services team reached out to Graphcom for help. We traveled to the trailer’s dealership to take photos and precise measurements of every side and square inch of the vehicle, recording where there were hardware, bolts, doors, and windows.

After compiling the information and preparing a proposal that met the Mount’s budget, Graphcom communicated details back to the designer so final adjustments could be made to the artwork. The schedule was tight, and students were returning to campus in a few days. The Graphcom signage team worked tirelessly to prepare the files, submit proofs, print the graphics, and complete the installation in just under three days.

The Results

Emmit’s Street Eats was delivered to the Mount St. Mary’s campus a day before students arrived. It has been operational since, providing students and staff an alternative dining option, and is sure to continue to be a student favorite. Just a few years ago, 12 colleges in North America ran their own food trucks. Today, that number has increased over 700 percent. Mount St. Mary’s University now proudly and boldly falls in that category!


What’s Next?

Graphcom and the Mount will continue a robust partnership that has been growing for more than 20 years. Additional upcoming projects include the printing and mailing of fall appeal letters and social-distancing signage for the athletics department. In addition, Graphcom continues to collaborate with the University Advancement team for future development initiatives.
